My story

On a catch-up call with my dad a few years ago, he broke the news:
“I have cancer, It’s aggressive.”

Words you don't ever expect to hear but statistically you likely to at some point from a loved one.

No symptoms. No warnings. No reason to think anything was wrong. Just a check-up he’d finally got around to doing, almost as an afterthought.

My dad is the kind of man who’s barely taken a sick day since I can remember. So hearing those words hit hard.
Prostate cancer is the most common cancer for men with 1 in 8 being diagnosed with it in their life, yet it usually has no early symptoms. Many men only get diagnosed after someone close to them is.

So after a successful golf day last year where as a team we raised just shy of £4000, I decided to set up the second Annual Ameresco Golf challenge to get a bigger group together with the hopes of beating last years donations. Split between our London, Bristol and Leeds teams we all teeing off for the same cause. Taking on the Big Golf Race-72 holes in one day ( if we are fast enough). That’s over 25 miles of walking, hundreds of swings, and a lot of deep breaths.

For me, this challenge is a tribute to my dad. He’s faced this diagnosis with a mindset that’s nothing short of inspiring, never letting it get the better of him, mentally or physically. He made the changes he needed to fight it head-on, and I couldn’t be prouder.

I’m doing this for him and for every other dad, uncle, brother, and friend who might catch it early if they just get checked!
